Deborah ThomasOne of the first fee-only financial planners in the country, Deborah Thomas earned the Certified Financial Planner designation in 1985 after obtaining her law degree and practicing law in Oregon and California.

Ms. Thomas specializes in complex financial cases such as retirement planning, high net worth divorces, minimizing estate and gift taxes in family planning, and diversifying concentrated stock portfolios. Ms. Thomas is the founder of Silver Oak Advisory Group and the Silver Oak Charitable Giving Circle.

She is an acknowledged expert on investment policy and assisted in developing the courses, Asset Allocation and Modern Portfolio Design and Distributions from IRAs and Qualified Plans, for the College for Financial Planning. Ms. Thomas writes and speaks frequently on various financial advising topics to business and professional groups, including programs sponsored by the American Bar Association, American Law Institute and the Oregon Society of CPAs.

Ms. Thomas served for nine years as trustee for Portland Women's Foundation, and is a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Financial Planning. She also edited the highly acclaimed book, The Terrible Truth About Investing: How to be a Savvy Investor by Bruce Temkin.
