Closing Out the Year

We will not be sad to see 2008 come to an end. It looks like it is going to be “one for the record books” on many different levels. On the plus side, electing our first bi-racial President and energizing huge voter turnouts. On the down side, watching stock markets fall hard and fast and learning about serious trouble in many sectors of our economy.

Returning to the plus side, the uncertainties of a stalled economy and shrinking portfolios seem to have forced all of us to slow down and think about what’s important in life. We’ve heard from clients and friends who are changing their social life to smaller gatherings and more time at home. People are putting down their Blackberrys and talking with each other, and in a more meaningful way. Our quality of life has improved, in spite of — or maybe because of — spending less money. Even the conversations about how to get by on less are entertaining.

And so once again, we take this opportunity to count our blessings.

We wish each and every one of you Happy Holidays and especially, a Happy New Year filled with good health, good friends and good fortune!
