December 2008 Newsletter
Closing Out the Year
We will not be sad to see 2008 come to an end. It looks like it is going to be one for the record books on many different levels. On the plus side, electing our first bi-racial President and energizing huge voter turnouts. On the down side, watching stock markets fall hard and fast and learning about serious trouble in many sectors of our economy.
Returning to the plus side, the uncertainties of a stalled economy and shrinking portfolios seem to have forced all of us to slow down and think about whats important in life. Weve heard from clients and friends who are changing their social life to smaller gatherings and more time at home. People are putting down their Blackberrys and talking with each other, and in a more meaningful way. Our quality of life has improved, in spite of or maybe because of spending less money. Even the conversations about how to get by on less are entertaining.
And so once again, we take this opportunity to count our blessings.
- We appreciate all of you who, in the midst of depressing investment reports,
called to ask how we were doing.
- We are grateful for the friends and family you have referred to us and the glowing recommendations you gave.
- Understanding how fortunate we are, we are happy we can make charitable contributions to others who have less.
- We are humbled by the testimonials from clients who tell us we have made a real difference in their lives.
- We feel lucky to work in a pleasant office with people we like to see every day.
- And we are very happy to celebrate Silver Oak being in business for over 17 years!
We wish each and every one of you Happy Holidays and especially, a Happy New Year filled with good health, good friends and good fortune!
