There are many aspects I enjoy about being a financial planner. I appreciate digging into the data and diving deep into the spreadsheets but most notably, participating in meaningful discussions with clients. I get energy from helping clients clarify their situation and align all of their resources with their life goals. Life is all about tradeoffs and my goal is to help clients understand their situation and develop a strategy that brings the most joy and meaning to their lives.
In my previous career as a software engineer, I saw several of my colleagues suffer through the dot-com bust, upending careers and dragging their lives off-track. Realizing much of these negative experiences could have been avoided with a good financial plan, I was inspired to go back to school and start down a new professional path. After completing the requirements for my new career, I found my way to Deborah Thomas, the founder of Silver Oak. I was enthralled to see how she ran the business—especially her focus on developing meaningful relationships with clients.
When Deborah was ready to retire, it was a natural transition to become a partner at Silver Oak, carrying on the values and mission as a leader and Chief Compliance Officer. My technology background and focus on the details has helped us move forward with technology that helps our clients stay informed and on track with their goals.
Outside the office, I love spending time with my wife and our two sons, often attending soccer games, filming a movie or attending an art show. When I can find the time, I love spending time out in the wilderness, especially the Redwoods where I spent so much time as a youth.
